"When our 1952 Armstrong Siddeley Hurricane sustained Accident damage so we consulted Dave at De-Fleet Services. The finished product is superb, so much so that in its first rally after the work was completed it won the Florence Longstaff Trophy for best on show in a 400+ car rally. The finish is superb, the sevice excellent, reliable and friendly."

De-Fleet took delivery of a 1974 Betaillere cattle van in quite good condition. The brief was to convert the van into a street catering vehicle selling premium steak & burgers in the Bristol area. The client specified that the van was to be self sufficient with gas, water & electricity onboard.

Preparation

Firstly we had to strip-back the entire old wood paneling of the van, removing all body components, doors windows etc. the vehicle as then Grit-blasted inside & out to remove all corrosion. At this point all the rust sections of the body work were cut out and new metal sheets were welded back in place.

Body Conversion

The rear side body was cut-away to make provision for the service hatch & the spare wheel fixings removed to be replaced with a LPG tank. Some body panels were replaced whilst others were cut away & new metal welded-in.

Paint

We started off preparing the van before priming the complete vehicle & all parts including seat frames etc. After drying the primer is flatterned & all joints are sealed prior to painting. High quality 2K acrylic paint is applied in three coats, once dry all inner bodywork is given a thorough covering of Waxoyl for lasting protection.

Interior Cab

Floor panels were painted to an antislip black, cab interior to cream, new door window runners were fitted & seats re-trimmed. We also removed & painted the steering column & glove box panels.

Cathering Conversion

After planning the electrical layout and first fix the interior was trimmed with brushed stainless, the floor was covered with non-slip hygiene panel. Stainless worktops and counters were fitted all around. Pressurized hot and cold water supply was fitted to twin stainless steel sinks. Storage shelves & low level cupboards were custom fabricated and trimmed in stainless. 160L fridge & freezer's were fitted under the counter along with a extraction unit to complete the cathering kit. down lights were fitted on both sides.

Mains electric hook-up with distribution board, 12v charge system with leisure battery & 240v inverter supplies the power. A LPG tank was fitted under the vehicle between chassis rails complete with a electronic guage on the dash and a remote filler on the side of the body. This will supply economical gas for griddle & fryers.
